i love new york

ladida. was strolling down 5th ave when i ran into this:

tried to take pictures inconspicuously for fear of being handcuffed by some apple employee.

luckily, i made it out alive. krista kept a lookout for me while i snapped away.

ahhh i love new york. should i move???

oh so hot

recently bought a pair of heels that were really too high for me. seeing how i usually prefer flats, they were quite a challenge.

why do women have to suffer for fashion. imagine all your weight on these tiny tips. this is harder than ballet.

bay to breakers

weekend was rather exciting. first it was poker night:

i won third place. :) i swear i don't gamble often.

then after 4 hours of sleep, time for a 12k marathon. where else can you get such an interesting mix of runners other than san francisco. check out the full album and the different costumes (if clothed).

loan and i as we pass the 4th mile mark.

passed out sunday night.

the power of java

had the opportunity to attend the largest software conference in the world. my gosh it was geekville (imagine 12,000 of us in a convention center) but i'm all teched out right now. being geeky is kinda tiring, but pretty fun. :)

go if you get a chance.

aww :(

i hope mitu gets better. :(

the macbook

temptation calls in a 1-inch thick glossy black 2 GHz core duo processor. boots up in both windows and mac OS simultaneously. tab between the screens. or rather, OS-es. which is probably one of their smartest moves. running on Windows isn't ridiculously fast, but hey, i don't game either.

and of course, the finishes. magnetic latches, magnetic power cords, glossy screens, absolutely well done.

story

gahhhh.

general useful tip #2

try not to turn on your cellphone during a flight. but should it happen to ring, look away and pretend it ain't yours.

general useful tip #1

don't go on a long flight wearing flip flops unless you want your feet to freeze.

project planning

"the mythical man myth is like saying that you can take nine women, put them together and in a month you'll produce one baby".

so apparently that's a brazilian saying. my manager was teaching me how to do project planning but it doesn't seem so fun. or maybe because he was going on this huge tangent and i was starving to death during the meeting.

giants vs cubs

yay go cubs!!! (i don't know why i'm rooting for them. i just root for whoever's winning.)

it was a fun game with the coworkers. :) beer, garlic fries, churros, hot dogs.

i love this park. check out the view.

into what?

i'm slowly morphing. morphing into what i'm unsure. i've been doing a lot of things lately that i don't usually do. nothing bad i hope.

i wonder if i present different fronts to different people, but i don't think that's unusual. people are usually different depending on whom they're hanging out with. and that doesn't make them fake. they're all interesting sides of me but together it makes me whole. complete. many things i enjoy, and with different crowds. it keeps me sane, not too tame, but not too wild either.

not too sure what i want. but i'm getting more comfortable. either that, or i'm losing control.

our GPS

the pastor today gave an interesting analogy about our paths in life.

we have a god-given GPS within ourselves. we choose our final destinations, and god will point out the directions along the way. with GPS, you key in which location you'd like to be at, and the system will tell you how to get there. at the point of time that you need to turn, the system will tell you to turn. that's how god works. he'll tell you where to go when you're ready. you just have to trust.

the comforting about it is that you are allowed to make mistakes. if you're too distracted listening to music, or talking on your cell, and you happen to miss a turn, the GPS will recalculate the directions and tell you where to go next. if you get lost, or get distracted along the way, god's still there to point out where to go next if you'd listen.

interestingly i've had a GPS that gave up on me before. i took too many wrong turns, and eventually the lady says 'find your own way back to the pink line'. sheesh.

one recent incident

my sis has a convenient knack for forgetting that i'm on a different timezone. once she was catching an international flight from JFK to KUL via ORD.

*in deep sleep*
3am. *ring ring*. "hey cha (older sis in chinese) guess what, i missed my flight". "okay well get on the next one". put phone down.

3.30am. *ring ring*. "okay to update you, i got on the next flight to chicago, leaves in 45 mins". i say great. put phone down.

4am. *ring ring*. growl at the phone. "am shopping in duty free, do you think kayjinn would like an 'i love newyork shirt?". ARGH. "i don't really care, why are you calling me, sure why not get him one." put phone down.

4.30am. *ring ring*. "CHA, i missed my flight AGAIN". almost pull hair out. "HOW the heck did you miss your flight twice". apparently she was too busy shopping. discuss that she should get the first flight out in the morning, and go stay overnight in a hotel. put down phone.

5am. *ring ring*. WHAT IS IT NOW. "cha, which hotel should i get, days inn is 60/night but fairfield is nicer, closer but for 80/night". really do not care at this moment if she sleeps on the damn street. "fine FINE i'll pay for it just GO stay in a hotel". put phone down.

6am. *ring ring*. have fully punched my pillow and torn it into pieces. "just wanted to let you know i'm all checked in. will go to sleep before my flight at 10am". slam phone down.

what an awesome sister.

the dreams we have

aaron said something the other day that made me think. there are exceptions, but in the western world, people invest in financial instruments, whereas the eastern culture is to invest in their children.

this is why i feel so much responsibility towards my family. that my parents have invested so much time and money on my sisters and i. the choices i make, are not just for myself, because it indirectly affects them as well.

i live for myself, i live for them.

the Wall

we LAUNCHED!!!

fly into ohare. or next month into jfk. terminal 3. multi-touch, 10ft by 7ft, 2100 x 1200 pixels, easily scalable, hardware-agnostic.

it's huge news for the Labs. one of the most public demos we've had. read the news. watch the video.

to feed or not to feed

some running around at golden gate park playing football and frisbee for adam's b'day :)

and off to the vegetarian house, which made me wonder: so are animals made to be eaten? i'm a strong believer in the food chain, but perusing through the 'informative booklet' makes my stance waver. i think i'll crave for a good ol steak at the end of the day though.

roomie's gf riddhi was up for the weekend and did some awesome coordination :)

and lastly, i spent 5 hours at barnes and noble yesterday finishing a book that i had lost on the plane. an awesome read, i highly suggest you pick up confessions of an economic hit man.

*sniff*

oh my gosh I"M SOO SADDDDD :( the monkey dies????!!!
