unclicking elevator buttons

i've always thought that being able to un-click an elevator button would be very cool (if any of you are like me and are prone to hitting the wrong floor, or maybe, even the alarm bell a few times). so of course, when i saw someone at work correct his mistake by pressing 3 elevator buttons at the same time, to nicely erase his 'wrong' floor, i thought (and exclaimed) - WOW!

so at night i got to my hotel and happily decided to try it out. started off at L, and my room's on 34. just for kicks, to see if it'll erase my choice, i hit 3, 6, and 33 at the same time.

hmm. 34 was still lit. (moved from 3 to 6).

decided to try again, but geez, i guess i should have tried floors higher than 34 just in case i was wrong. so i hit 39, 41 and 44. didn't work. tried again. 42, 43, 46.

darnit. now a ton of buttons are lit. for one person in the elevator.

i guess it doesn't work with ALL elevators. i felt sorry for the dude who got in at 34 and was going up.

taxi driver madness

you know, i usually try to be a generous tipper for cabbies (at least, somewhat nice), but now, i'm really just going to see if they're nice to me. in the span of a few days, i've run into quite a few nasty ones (almost on the par of those taxi drivers in malaysia) who bargain, frown and curse at you.

what an awful experience. one day i'm really going to report the nasty ones to the city council.

bleh. i might have to move yet again!!!

the apt management have been extremely flaky in rent, raising it by more than $300 in the last year, so that's pretty unreasonable. i've tried looking around for alternatives though (in case my discussion with the mgmt goes downhill), and have run into places that are nice, but don't allow 'overnight guests'.

hmph. half the time that i'm actually IN town i have guests. definitely not a place i'd want to stay at.

8ams and 10.30pms

i like working with offshore, but the twice daily calls is killing me. i like work, but i also like time away from work.

so the 8am meetings are usually fine, but people who know me know that i sometimes like to sleep before 10.30pm (yes yes fine call me old, but i do like my sleep). there are a couple of times that i have gone to sleep first, woken up at 10.30 for the call, then gone back to sleep.

bleh.
