lost wallet

*ALMOST*.

i don't know why. i've never lost an item before (not even a sock), but in the last 6 months, i've lost my wallet, twice. the first time it was stolen (my very favorite wallet too :( ) but this time, i beautifully LEFT it in a cabbie. paid him, then got out of the cab without it.

and both times in chicago. i mean. i love this city, but something's gotta be jinxed about this.

so i had a morning full of panic attacks (called up every cab company in the city and begged to be connected to every cab driver #722 ("is he african american? yup, i noticed he had a nice accent")). finally located him (after tons of pleading with horrible dispatchers), but it wasn't to be found anywhere (i did believe him when he said he couldn't find it, seemed to be a nice enough chap).

finally i dialed my work voicemail to find a new message waiting for me. thankfully i had at some random moment decided to carry a business card in my wallet (for recruiting purposes), and some dude had called me to tell me that he picked up my wallet since he was the next one in the cab. he apparently didn't trust the cabbie to return it to me (who is, for the record, a really nice guy too).

but anyway. i should be reunited with my wallet soon. there ARE good people in this country after all. :)
