recycling bin
so here's a thought.
why are the recycling bins (on your PC) called recycling bins? whatever you trash there doesn't get recycled, you simply want to throw that stuff away cuz you don't need it anymore. are you reusing your document? no. is it because you're recycling the space that was taken? no, it still remains on your hard drive until you decide to empty it. no extra space there.
what EXACTLY are we recycling here?

i think ur second point is valid. u are actually recycling 'space'. Just like how you throw plastic bottles into the recycling bin outside your house/apartment. It doesnt get recycled until the garbage truck comes and empty the bin for you. So, by analogy, you have to act as a garbage truck and go empty the bin yourself in order for you to have the recycled 'space'.
well. then how's this.
your regular trash bins, that you use for throwing out food, should be called recycling bins too. old food gets thrown out, and you use that space that has been cleared out in your refridgerator to put new food in. your empty shampoo bottles, when they are removed from your bathroom, will be thrown out. is your bathroom then a recycling bin too?
recycling the space on your harddrive doesn't qualify your 'recycling bin' to be called a recycling bin. it really is a trash can. :)
well, i think the only raw material/resource in a harddrive is space that can always be recycled.
but in a real world, there are resources other than space that can't be recycled. So, in a real world, we also need the regular thrash bin.
"re·cy·cle (rē-sī'kəl): To use again, especially to reprocess: recycle aluminum cans; recycle old jokes."
Following this definition, the term 'recycle bin' implies that you might extract some of the contents and reuse them - which is exactly what you're doing when you 'restore' a file.
- someone NOT going to japonais tonight
eh. i can almost accept your explanation. except that when i hit 'delete' to a file i very rarely restore it, just about as often as i go through the physical trash can digging for something i accidentally threw away.
